If you're looking to truly get off the beaten path, into Hokkaido's legendary backcountry and to the top of the island's most spectacular volcanoes, this is the trip for you. We've still got several resort based days to make sure we lap up our fill of lift accessed powder (particularly for stormy, low visibility days) but as soon as the sun creeps out we'll be headed for the nearest summit.
Your guide will keep you updated on conditions daily and as an added bonus, if a bluebird day comes along, we'll consider making an attempt on the Fuji of the of the North - Mount Yotei. Prior backcountry experience is not necessary but reasonable physhical fitness and a desire to earn your turns is essential for this trip.

Designed only for the most serious skiers and riders out there, this is the type of holiday that you go back to work to recover from. We will put as much into one week as possible and guarantee that you will be riding the deepest snow on the island all week long. With no set itinerary, we follow the snow to the best of the best over seven days.
Equipped with a full set of backcountry touring equipment, 2 vehicles and 2 certified backcountry guides the options are almost limitless. We will be able to tap every available option at all the resorts we visit including car shuttle runs off the back side of several resorts. Along the way, we can pull up to build kickers or hit some classic roadside pillow lines (see left). Following the ski days we will take you to the best restaurants, onsen's (hot springs) and of course out on the town to investigate the Japanese night life.
It is unlikely that we will spend more than one or two nights in any given hotel and expect at least some driving every day because the key to keeping up with the snow is mobility - so pack light and be prepared for plenty of early mornings... and late nights. Fortunately, our comfortable 4WD vans come equipped with CD players to keep you entertained and an ice box to keep the drinks cold.
This trip is as much up to you as it is us, so it's anybodys guess how things will unfold, but one thing is for sure - this will be one helluva'n excursion. As an added bonus, we've kept costs to a minimum in an effort to accomodate the real ski bums out there. There is no better value out there.

The Daisetsuzan Traverse: Mar. 22 - 25, 2012 |
Mega Spring Discount - 65000Yen!!
(Backcountry Gear Included) |
Finish the winter with an epic traverse in Hokkaido's incredible Daisetsuzan mountain range. As the days get longer and the weather more stable, this is the time of year to head to the roof of Hokkaido in search of cold, north facing slopes still holding great snow. Starting from Asahidake resort, we'll catch Hokkaido's highest lift before donning our skins/snowshoes and climbing to the summit of Hokkaido's highest peak. From the peak, we traverse the alpine plateau separating Asahidake from Kurodake. Upon reaching the summit of Kurodake (1984 meters) we will embark on one of the longest descents possible in Hokkaido down to Sounkyo town (670 meters). Depending on our arrival time there may even be the opportunity to catch a couple more runs off the Kurodake ropeway before heading to the onsen to ease your exhausted muscles and enjoy a big buffet dinner.
On day 2 we'll continue to lap up steep powder runs within Kurodake's lifted area, giving your climbing muscles a rest but your adrenaline levels a spike. Finish the day with another great dinner and relaxing onsen in preparation for the return to Asahidake. On our final day, we will once again use the Kurodake lifts to gain some elevation before climbing to the peak of Kurodake and traversing back to Asahidake. We will finish the day with a few laps of the Asahidake ropeway (time permitting) before heading back to Sapporo, Niseko or continuing on to Tokachidake for two more incredible days in the Southern Daisetsuzan's (please inquire for details and pricing to add this onto your trip).
Please note this trip is very weather dependent as we will require clear conditions to complete the alpine traverse between the peaks of Kurodake and Asahidake. In the event of inclement weather, we can expect great powder conditions closer to the lifts so we will lap up lines within the lifted areas and do shorter hikes closer to treeline where visibility is better. We will still make sure to visit both areas, completing the traverse by vehicle if weather conditions don't allow us to do the hike.
